The average sulphites; thiosulphates import price stood at $561 per ton in 2022, dropping by -9% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 367%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $6,393 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($792 per ton), while the price for Italy ($395 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In August 2023, the average sulphites; thiosulphates export price amounted to $2,531 per ton, waning by -19.1% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated slight growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, sulphites; thiosulphates export price decreased by -19.1% against July 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 217% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,610 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($2,815 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($1,082 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sulphites; Thiosulphates Imports in Hungary

For the fourth year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in purchases abroad of sulphites; thiosulphateses, which increased by 58% to 5.3K tons in 2022. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 354% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, sulphites; thiosulphates imports surged to $3M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.9% over the last three-year period.
