The average sulphites; thiosulphates import price stood at $721 per ton in 2022, declining by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sulphites; thiosulphates import price increased by +24.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $763 per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,064 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($521 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sulphites; thiosulphates export price stood at $911 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -25.4% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a mild increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, sulphites; thiosulphates export price decreased by -26.8% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 55% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,444 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($2,341 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($574 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Swaziland (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 14K tons of sulphites; thiosulphateses were imported into the UK; picking up by 64% on the previous year. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sulphites; thiosulphates imports skyrocketed to $9.8M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
