Sweet Potato Price in Romania (CIF) - 2023
The average sweet potato import price stood at $1,473 per ton in June 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a slight expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, sweet potato import price increased by +15.4% against January 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 38% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,698 per ton. From August 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($2,947 per ton), while the price for the United States ($853 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Price in Romania (FOB) - 2022
The average sweet potato export price stood at $1,548 per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 21% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Spain.
From 2019 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Belgium amounted to +75.5% per year.
Sweet Potato Imports in Romania
For the fourth year in a row, Romania recorded growth in purchases abroad of sweet potatoes, which increased by 7.7% to 3.2K tons in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, sweet potato imports expanded remarkably to $3.5M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.8% over the last three-year period.
