Sweet Potato Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022
The average sweet potato import price stood at $1,898 per ton in September 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated temperate growth from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, sweet potato import price increased by +11.8% against May 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2021 when the average import price increased by 29% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,925 per ton in January 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to September 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,197 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($704 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sweet Potato Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022
The average sweet potato export price stood at $2,458 per ton in September 2022, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a perceptible increase from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, sweet potato export price increased by +15.2% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2021 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $3,226 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($3,201 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia totaled $2,360 per ton.
From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+2.9%).
Sweet Potato Imports in Singapore
In 2022, purchases abroad of sweet potatoes decreased by -9.7% to 10K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 28%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 13K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sweet potato imports declined modestly to $13M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 6.9%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $15M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
