Tomato Price in Finland (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average tomato import price amounted to $2,652 per ton, rising by 6.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 an increase of 24% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,640 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,679 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,111 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tomato Price in Finland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average tomato export price amounted to $2,486 per ton, picking up by 35% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 180%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,099 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($2,826 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($792 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, purchases abroad of tomatoes decreased by -3.4% to 24K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 26K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tomato imports reduced to $68M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year.
