Twine and Cordage Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022
The average twine and cordage export price stood at $6,813 per ton in 2022, increasing by 15% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($9,387 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($3,036 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+7.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Twine and Cordage Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average twine and cordage import price stood at $1,661 per ton in August 2023, waning by -59.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 80% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,707 per ton. From October 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($5,370 per ton), while the price for France ($199 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Twine and Cordage Exports in Belgium
In 2022, overseas shipments of twine, cordage, rope and cables decreased by -31.2% to 6.4K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 9.3K tons, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, twine and cordage exports shrank sharply to $43M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $55M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

Twine and Cordage Imports in Belgium
In 2022, supplies from abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables decreased by -39% to 8K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports dropped sharply to $30M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last three years.
