Twine and Cordage Price in Canada (CIF) - 2022
The average twine and cordage import price stood at $3,631 per ton in 2022, picking up by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $7,261 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,943 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($1,979 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Twine and Cordage Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average twine and cordage export price amounted to $7,801 per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 24% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $9,816 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to -0.7% per month.
Twine and Cordage Imports in Canada
In 2022, the amount of twine, cordage, rope and cables imported into Canada contracted to 23K tons, waning by -8.3% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 26K tons, and then fell in the following year.
