Urea Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average urea import price amounted to $524 per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $674 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,065 per ton), while the price for Austria ($286 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Urea Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average urea export price amounted to $1,508 per ton, with an increase of 47% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 129% month-to-month. The export price peaked in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($2,547 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Croatia (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Urea Imports in Hungary
For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in purchases abroad of urea, which increased by 65% to 417K tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, urea imports soared to $195M in 2022. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 157% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Urea Exports in Hungary
For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded decline in overseas shipments of urea, which decreased by -38.3% to 19K tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic decrease. The smallest decline of -16.2% was in 2020.
In value terms, urea exports dropped slightly to $11M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year.
