Vegetable Price in India (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average vegetable export price amounted to $279 per ton, which is down by -16.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 21%. The export price peaked at $337 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($467 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nepal ($174 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vegetable Price in India (CIF) - 2022
The average vegetable import price stood at $312 per ton in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 50%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $629 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($903 per ton), while the price for Nepal ($101 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+20.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Vegetable Exports in India
In 2022, approx. 2.9M tons of vegetables were exported from India; rising by 37% against 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, vegetable exports totaled $798M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 14%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Vegetable Imports in India
For the fourth year in a row, India recorded growth in overseas purchases of vegetables, which increased by 18% to 21K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, vegetable imports surged to $6.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $7.6M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
