Vermouth Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average vermouth import price amounted to $2.7 per litre, waning by -21.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $3.5 per litre in June 2023, and then reduced remarkably in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($8.3 per litre), while the price for Spain ($2.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Vermouth Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average vermouth export price amounted to $11 per litre, dropping by -20.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 199% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $18 per litre in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($25 per litre), while the average price for exports to the United States ($3.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (+31.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Vermouth Imports in Japan
In 2022, purchases abroad of vermouth was finally on the rise to reach 3.3M litres after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 3.6M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, vermouth imports expanded significantly to $8.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. Imports peaked at $9.5M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

For the fourth year in a row, Japan recorded growth in shipments abroad of vermouth, which increased by 47% to 25K litres in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 234%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
