Wheat Gluten Price in France (FOB) - 2023
The average wheat gluten export price stood at $2,497 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 16% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,054 per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($1,134 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Gluten Price in France (CIF) - 2023
The average wheat gluten import price stood at $2,138 per ton in August 2023, with a decrease of -11% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a pronounced increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, wheat gluten import price decreased by -22.6% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 26% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,761 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($3,630 per ton), while the price for Spain ($508 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wheat Gluten Exports in France
In 2022, approx. 122K tons of wheat gluten were exported from France; shrinking by -25.1% compared with 2021. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 163K tons, and then shrank notably in the following year.
In value terms, wheat gluten exports contracted to $217M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $250M, and then declined in the following year.
