Whisky Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average whisky export price amounted to $9.5 per litre, with a decrease of -26.4% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 30% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $12.9 per litre, and then contracted markedly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Romania ($26.9 per litre), while the average price for exports to the UK ($5.2 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Whisky Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2023
The average whisky import price stood at $4.5 per litre in June 2023, shrinking by -49.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 45% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $10.0 per litre in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($15.9 per litre), while the price for Germany ($1.7 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+15.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Whisky Exports in Belgium
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of whisky, when their volume decreased by -18.5% to 13M litres. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 35%. The exports peaked at 16M litres in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, whisky exports reduced dramatically to $116M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +24.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $150M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Whisky Imports in Belgium
In 2022, purchases abroad of whisky decreased by -29.2% to 14M litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 22M litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, whisky imports contracted modestly to $118M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $123M in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
