Whole Fresh Milk Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023
The average whole fresh milk import price stood at $461 per ton in September 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 3.9% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $578 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($736 per ton), while the price for Latvia ($419 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Whole Fresh Milk Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average whole fresh milk export price amounted to $450 per ton, picking up by 6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.7% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $602 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($541 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland totaled $426 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (-0.9%).
Whole Fresh Milk Imports in Lithuania
For the fourth consecutive year, Lithuania recorded growth in overseas purchases of whole fresh milk, which increased by 8% to 569K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, whole fresh milk imports soared to $313M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +75.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Whole Fresh Milk Exports in Lithuania
In 2022, whole fresh milk exports from Lithuania contracted to 89K tons, reducing by -13.7% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 5.2% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 103K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, whole fresh milk exports rose modestly to $51M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
