In 2022, the average wine lees; argol import price amounted to $243 per ton, increasing by 3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 99%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $838 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($42,000 per ton), while the price for China totaled $86 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+56.8%).

Wine Lees; Argol Imports in Tanzania

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of wine lees; argol, when their volume decreased by -2.2% to 534 kg. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50% against the previous year.

In value terms, wine lees; argol imports amounted to $130 in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
