Wine Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average wine import price amounted to $7.6 per litre, reducing by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $7.7 per litre, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($13 per litre), while the price for South Africa ($2.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average wine export price amounted to $111 per litre, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 36%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($376 per litre), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($20 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wine Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, purchases abroad of wine and grape must decreased by -6% to 179M litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 4.1%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 191M litres, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, wine imports declined to $1.4B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.5B, and then declined in the following year.
