Wood Charcoal Price in India (FOB) - 2022
The average wood charcoal export price stood at $335 per ton in 2022, increasing by 42% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The export price peaked at $416 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($694 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bhutan ($191 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+59.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wood Charcoal Price in India (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average wood charcoal import price amounted to $144 per ton, growing by 53% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 58%. The import price peaked at $553 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($427 per ton), while the price for Bhutan ($10 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (-1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Wood Charcoal Exports in India
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of wood charcoal, when their volume decreased by -11% to 170K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 191K tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, wood charcoal exports skyrocketed to $57M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Wood Charcoal Imports in India
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of wood charcoal, when their volume decreased by -8.9% to 65K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 222%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 71K tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, wood charcoal imports soared to $9.3M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +76.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
