In 2022, the average wood charcoal import price amounted to $2,439 per ton, surging by 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw pronounced growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Indonesia ($2,294 per ton) and Egypt ($2,256 per ton), while the price for France ($1,776 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($1,890 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wood charcoal export price stood at $1,403 per ton in 2022, declining by -3.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 39%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,541 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
