Woolen Yarn Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average woolen yarn import price amounted to $22,458 per ton, growing by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 6.2%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($53,116 per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($6,975 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Woolen Yarn Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average woolen yarn export price amounted to $18,958 per ton, dropping by -21.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 60% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $24,736 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($22,006 per ton), while the average price for exports to Panama ($10,525 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Panama (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Woolen Yarn Imports in the United States
In 2022, approx. 6.2K tons of yarn of wool were imported into the United States; falling by -4.4% compared with the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6.5K tons, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
In value terms, woolen yarn imports stood at $140M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
