Yams Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average yams import price amounted to $1,498 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 33% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,605 per ton. From August 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($3,045 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($1,068 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Yams Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average yams export price stood at $2,795 per ton in October 2023, picking up by 94% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a resilient expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +6.0% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, yams export price increased by +99.5% against May 2023 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,609 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($816 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Yams Imports in the Netherlands
For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in supplies from abroad of yams, which increased by 12% to 7.8K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, yams imports rose notably to $8.9M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +26.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +100.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Yams Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, overseas shipments of yams decreased by -12.8% to 4.4K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 227%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, yams exports fell modestly to $7.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 167%.
