Ammonia Market Size in Africa

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ammonia exports declined rapidly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Algeria represented the major exporter of anhydrous ammonia in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Libya (X tons), together making up a X% share of total exports.

Algeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the anhydrous ammonia exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Libya (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Algeria and Libya increased by X and X percentage points, respectively.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, reducing by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 an increase of X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2022, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, ammonia imports shrank sharply to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a measured expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Morocco prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Tunisia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by South Africa (X%). Egypt (X tons) and Madagascar (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into Morocco increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Egypt (X%) and Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, South Africa (X%) and Tunisia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Morocco (X p.p.) and Egypt (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of South Africa (X p.p.) and Tunisia (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Morocco ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported anhydrous ammonia in Africa, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with an X% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa, with a X% share.

In Morocco, ammonia imports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (X% per year) and South Africa (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2023, which is down by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted mild growth.
