Exports in ASEAN

In 2023, shipments abroad of cargo trailers and semi-trailers decreased by X% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer exports soared to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of cargo trailers and semi-trailers, namely Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Indonesia (X units) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (X%). Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest trailer and semi-trailer supplier in ASEAN, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (X% per year) and Singapore (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, surging by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2023, approx. X units of cargo trailers and semi-trailers were imported in ASEAN; with an increase of X% against 2022 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, trailer and semi-trailer imports surged to $X in 2023. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
