Exports by Country

Malaysia was the main exporter of hydrogen in ASEAN, with the volume of exports resulting at X cubic meters, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. Singapore (X cubic meters) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X cubic meters). All these countries together took near X% share of total exports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hydrogen exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Thailand (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (X p.p.) and Singapore (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest hydrogen supplier in ASEAN, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with an X% share of total exports.

In 2023, overseas purchases of hydrogen decreased by X% to X cubic meters, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X cubic meters in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hydrogen imports shrank notably to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2022, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the major importing country with an import of about X cubic meters, which recorded X% of total imports. Singapore (X cubic meters) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X%). The following importers - Indonesia (X cubic meters) and Myanmar (X cubic meters) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to hydrogen imports into Malaysia stood at X%. At the same time, Myanmar (X%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X%), Indonesia (X%) and Singapore (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Malaysia (X p.p.) and Myanmar (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia and Singapore saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.
