Exports by Country
China dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Myanmar (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Japan (X%). The Philippines (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Vietnam (X%), Japan (X%), Hong Kong SAR (X%), Myanmar (X%) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Indonesia (X%), South Korea (X%) and the Philippines (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of China, Japan and Vietnam increased by X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest freshwater fish supplier in Asia-Pacific, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a X% share.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, Asia-Pacific recorded growth in overseas purchases of freshwater fish, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, freshwater fish imports expanded modestly to $X in 2023. Total imports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2023, Hong Kong SAR (X tons) was the major importer of freshwater fish, creating X% of total imports. China (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by South Korea (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. The following importers - Macao SAR (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
Imports into Hong Kong SAR decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Cambodia (X%), Vietnam (X%), China (X%) and South Korea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Macao SAR and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. China (X p.p.), Vietnam (X p.p.) and Cambodia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Japan and Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
