In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) was the major exporter of unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons, comprising 65% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X kg), making up a 35% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +12.4%).

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +13.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review.

The export price in Central Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 45% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+2.7%).

Imports in Central Asia

In general, imports, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 1,780% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 915%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Turkmenistan represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), achieving a 17% share of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - each resulted at a 6% share of total imports.

Turkmenistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports, with a CAGR of +59.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+38.9%) and Kyrgyzstan (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-13.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkmenistan (+74 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-74.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkmenistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported unsaturated acyclic hydrocarbons in Central Asia, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkmenistan stood at +55.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-6.7% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (-12.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Central Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 156% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a noticeable expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
