In value terms, yams exports dropped significantly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Bulgaria prevails in exports structure, recording X kg, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. The following exporters - Estonia (X kg) and Romania (X kg) - each resulted at a X% share of total exports.

From 2015 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to yams exports from Bulgaria stood at X%. Estonia (X%) and Romania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2015 to 2023, the share of Bulgaria increased by X percentage points.

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) remains the largest yams supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Estonia ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

In 2023, purchases abroad of yams decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a four-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2022, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, yams imports declined significantly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2022, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Romania (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to yams imports into Russia stood at X%. At the same time, Ukraine (X%) and Romania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023.
