Chocolate Exports
Exports in the EU
For the eleventh year in a row, the European Union recorded growth in shipments abroad of chocolate and cocoa products, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, chocolate exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and France (X tons), together finishing at X% of total export. Spain (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Italy ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) and Spain ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of chocolate and cocoa products imported in the European Union expanded slightly to X tons, picking up by X% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The purchases of the five major importers of chocolate and cocoa products, namely France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Spain (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total imports. Italy (X tons), Sweden (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Austria (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
