In value terms, tobacco production rose notably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in the EU
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of tobacco (smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff), when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Total exports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, tobacco exports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Poland (X tons), France (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) was the major exporter of tobacco (smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff) in the European Union, committing X% of total export. The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Italy (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Poland ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined X% share of total exports. Italy, Belgium, France and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of tobacco (smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff), namely Poland, Germany and Belgium, represented more than half of total import. Romania (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Spain (X%) and the Czech Republic (X%). France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Greece (X tons), Portugal (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Luxembourg (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest tobacco importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), Spain ($X) and Poland ($X), together accounting for X% of total imports. France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania, Greece, Portugal and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of X%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
