After two years of growth, shipments abroad of animal and pet feed decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, animal feed exports dropped to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the main exporter of animal and pet feed in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held an X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X%). Oman (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Iran (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to animal feed exports from Turkey stood at X%. At the same time, Iran (X%), Oman (X%), Saudi Arabia (X%), Tunisia (X%) and the United Arab Emirates (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Jordan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Saudi Arabia (X p.p.), Oman (X p.p.) and Iran (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Jordan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest animal feed supplier in MENA, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Jordan, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (X% per year) and Jordan (X% per year).

In 2023, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Iraq (X tons), distantly followed by Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Oman (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main importers of animal and pet feed, together mixing up X% of total imports. The following importers - Yemen (X tons), Libya (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Israel (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest animal feed importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Iraq ($X) and Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of X%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
