The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved fish fillet exports contracted notably to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, showed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Oman represented the largest exporter of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) in MENA, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Tunisia (X%), Yemen (X%) and Morocco (X%).

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved fish fillet exports from Oman stood at X%. At the same time, Turkey (X%) and Tunisia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the fourth year in a row, MENA recorded decline in overseas purchases of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked), which decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Overall, imports showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports fell remarkably to $X in 2023. In general, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Tunisia (X tons) was the major importer of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked), constituting X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Israel (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together committing a X% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked). At the same time, Saudi Arabia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023.
