South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. After two years of growth, purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports contracted notably to $X in 2023. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

South Africa prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Angola (X tons), comprising a X% share of total imports. Madagascar (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons. At the same time, Mozambique (X%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (X%) and Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mozambique emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Angola and Zimbabwe experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) and Zambia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
