Exports by Country

In 2023, Mozambique (X tons) represented the main exporter of molasses, generating X% of total exports. Zambia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons) and South Africa (X tons). All these countries together held near X% share of total exports.

Exports from Mozambique decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Zambia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Mozambique (X p.p.), Zambia (X p.p.) and South Africa (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tanzania saw its share reduced by X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively.

In 2023, purchases abroad of molasses was finally on the rise to reach X tons after seven years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, molasse imports expanded significantly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Africa was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached X% of total imports. Namibia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Malawi (X%), Botswana (X%), Tanzania (X%) and Zimbabwe (X%). Swaziland (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Tanzania (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
