The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Botswana (X tons), creating a X% share of total exports. Zimbabwe (X tons), Mauritius (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic closure exports from South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Botswana (X%), Zimbabwe (X%), Mauritius (X%) and Tanzania (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Botswana emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Zambia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. For the third year in a row, SADC recorded growth in supplies from abroad of plastic stoppers, caps and closures, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic closure imports reached $X in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2023, South Africa (X tons) represented the largest importer of plastic stoppers, caps and closures, constituting X% of total imports. Zimbabwe (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Zambia (X tons), Mozambique (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons).
