The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
South Africa prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Madagascar (X tons), committing a X% share of total exports. Tanzania (X kg) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Madagascar (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Madagascar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Tanzania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2022, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, snail imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2023. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Namibia was the key importer of snails (except sea snails) in SADC, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. South Africa (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Botswana (X%). Zimbabwe (X kg) held a minor share of total imports.
