Areca Nut Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average areca nut export price amounted to $1,628 per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,703 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($1,628 per ton) and the United States ($1,628 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,628 per ton) and Malaysia ($1,628 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+20.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Areca Nut Price in Vietnam (CIF) - 2022
The average areca nut import price stood at $3,475 per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 81%. The import price peaked at $6,363 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,475 per ton), while the price for India ($3,475 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.5%).
Areca Nut Exports in Vietnam
For the fourth consecutive year, Vietnam recorded growth in overseas shipments of areca nuts, which increased by 22% to 7.4K tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +26.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +102.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 52%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, areca nut exports soared to $12M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Areca Nut Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, overseas purchases of areca nuts decreased by -25.2% to 206 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1,041%.
In value terms, areca nut imports contracted sharply to $717K in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 778%.
