Biological Product Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
The average biological product import price stood at $314,247 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $428,294 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($740,424 per ton), while the price for Austria ($158,682 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Biological Product Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
The average biological product export price stood at $42,455 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -44.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 53% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $140,887 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($223,177 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($1,349 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+96.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Biological Product Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, approx. 195 tons of biological products were imported into Sri Lanka; growing by 4.1% compared with the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -30.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 281 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, biological product imports amounted to $61M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -2.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $63M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
