Hardboard Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average hardboard export price amounted to $1,176 per cubic meter, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.3% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,178 per cubic meter; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,439 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Poland ($789 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Hardboard Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
The average hardboard import price stood at $807 per cubic meter in June 2023, shrinking by -5.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 19% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $872 per cubic meter in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,928 per cubic meter), while the price for Turkey ($523 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Hardboard Exports in Germany
For the third year in a row, Germany recorded decline in shipments abroad of hardboard, which decreased by -26.3% to 694K cubic meters in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -1.4% was in 2020. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 974K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hardboard exports shrank dramatically to $757M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $901M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Hardboard Imports in Germany
In 2022, overseas purchases of hardboard decreased by -19% to 184K cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 6.5% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 227K cubic meters, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, hardboard imports rose rapidly to $130M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
