Price for Glass Bottle, Jar and Container in Hungary (FOB) - 2022
The average export price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass stood at $0.1 per unit in 2022, falling by -26.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 8.1%. The export price peaked at $0.8 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($0.2 per unit), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($0.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (-6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for bottles, jars and other containers of glass stood at $187 per thousand units in August 2023, reducing by -7.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 21% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $0.2 per unit. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($294 per thousand units), while the price for Ukraine ($130 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Glass Bottle, Jar and Container in Hungary
For the fourth consecutive year, Hungary recorded growth in shipments abroad of bottles, jars and other containers of glass, which increased by 54% to 1.1B units in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, glass bottle, jar and container exports rose sharply to $114M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +45.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
