Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Austria (CIF) - 2023
The average iron and steel wire import price stood at $1,389 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -18.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 23% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,936 per ton. From February 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($16,177 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($911 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Austria (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average iron and steel wire export price amounted to $2,581 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,764 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,348 per ton), while the average price for exports to Liechtenstein ($1,475 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Iron and Steel Wire in Austria
In 2022, approx. 178K tons of iron and steel wire were imported into Austria; with an increase of 1.8% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year.
