In 2022, the average export price for knives; with handles of base metals amounted to $1.6 per unit, with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for knives; with handles of base metals increased by +78.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1.9 per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($4.4 per unit), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($0.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+12.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for knives; with handles of base metals stood at $5.5 per unit in December 2023, picking up by 26% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 45% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $10.4 per unit in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5.1 per unit), while the price for Pakistan amounted to $1.9 per unit.
From February 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+4.9%).
Exports of Knives; with Handles of Base Metal in China
In 2022, the amount of knives; with handles of base metals exported from China skyrocketed to 4.3M units, rising by 25% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of knives; with handles of base metals surged to $7M in 2022. Overall, exports saw significant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
