In 2022, the average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes amounted to $1,828 per ton, falling by -26.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 157% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $8,044 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($4,015 per ton), while the price for China ($835 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports of Liquefied Ethylene, Propylene, Butylene and Butadiene in Angola

For the fourth consecutive year, Angola recorded growth in supplies from abroad of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes, which increased by 47% to 91 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 89% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes rose notably to $167K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +72.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
