In September 2023, the average import price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $2,972 per ton, with a decrease of -6.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,341 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($7,384 per ton), while the price for China ($1,481 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average export price for stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms amounted to $2,941 per ton, jumping by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 35% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,017 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4,712 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,394 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +32.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 13K tons, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, exports of stainless steel; flat-rolled products of width less than 600mms contracted to $27M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +68.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 81% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $30M, and then declined in the following year.
