Chestnut Production in Azerbaijan - 2022
In 2022, the amount of chestnuts produced in Azerbaijan was estimated at 606 tons, approximately reflecting the previous year's figure. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 2.7%. Chestnut production peaked at 634 tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure. Chestnut output in Azerbaijan indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and moderate growth in yield figures.
In value terms, chestnut production totaled $1.6M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 156% against the previous year. Chestnut production peaked at $1.7M in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, approx. 270 ha of chestnuts were harvested in Azerbaijan; almost unchanged from 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area showed a pronounced decline. The average yield of chestnuts in Azerbaijan amounted to 2.2 tons per ha in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year's figure. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, the average chestnut yield attained the peak level at 2.3 tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield stood at a somewhat lower figure.
