From 2014 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The export price in Africa stood at $X per litre in 2023, dropping by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per litre), while Ghana ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2023, South Africa (X litres) was the main importer of whisky, generating X% of total imports. Nigeria (X litres) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kenya (X%) and Ghana (X%). Morocco (X litres), Angola (X litres), Mauritius (X litres), Tanzania (X litres), Namibia (X litres), Cameroon (X litres), Mozambique (X litres), Congo (X litres) and Lesotho (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to whisky imports into South Africa stood at X%.
