The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2022, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In 2023, supplies from abroad of melon seed decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2022, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

In value terms, melon seed imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Egypt (X tons) was the largest importer of melon seed, generating X% of total imports. Ghana (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Kenya (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. The following importers - Algeria (X tons) and Angola (X tons) - each resulted at an X% share of total imports.
