Melon Seed Market Size in Latin America and the Caribbean

In 2023, the Latin American melon seed market increased by X% to $X, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, posted a buoyant expansion. In 2023, shipments abroad of melon seed was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, exports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, melon seed exports soared to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Peru represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. Brazil (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Honduras (X%) and Chile (X%).

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Peru ($X) remains the largest melon seed supplier in Latin America and the Caribbean, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Chile ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a X% share.

Over the period under review, imports recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, melon seed imports surged to $X in 2023. Overall, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Brazil (X tons) and Honduras (X tons) were the major importers of melon seed in Latin America and the Caribbean, together accounting for near X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Jamaica (X tons), Guatemala (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Chile (X tons), together making up a X% share of total imports.
